Loss Control Services

Additional Services

General Casualty has many services and resources available through our Loss Control Department. These include:

• Account service consultations for assistance with loss reviews, safety procedures, meetings, committees, program development and implementation.

• Industry class research to identify loss control best practices for a specific industry or business operation.

• Employee training in a wide variety of general safety topics such as bloodborne pathogens, lockout/tagout, hazard communications and back safety. Training may be augmented by demonstrations, videos from our library, PowerPoint presentations and/or handouts.

• Supervisor training sessions covering a wide variety of safety topics such as accident investigation, and transitional return-to-work designed for managers and supervisors.

• Technical training conducted by our on-staff environmental health specialist. Topics include respiratory protection training, chemical management, ergonomics, indoor air quality, proper use of personal protective equipment, and management of lead, silica and/or asbestos exposures. Programs are customized to your specific needs.

• Construction job-site surveys conducted with the job-site superintendent or foreman to evaluate operations, hazards and controls for your job sites.

• Mock-OSHA audits that simulate OSHA inspection and evaluation of how well a specific job site or location complies with OSHA rules and regulations. Photos, a written summary and recommendations are provided.

• Construction-related safety training conducted by our on-staff OSHA authorized construction specialist offers the following courses:
     * OSHA 10-hour construction certification two-day training
     * Competent person fall protection one-day training
     * Competent person excavation one-day training
     * Scaffolding user half-day training
     * Crane safety half-day seminar
     * Customized, client-requested construction training

• Defensive driver coaching covers tractor trailers – master driver, beverage trucks, maintenance/dump vehicles, ready-mix concrete trucks, straight trucks and van drivers. Other video-based programs are available on snowplow safety, hours of service, load securement, extreme weather driving and backing.

• Fleet driver road observation service includes 1-800-How’s My Driving service with proven track record for reducing loss frequency. Call answering and tracking done by third-party service with real-time, online access to results. This is a tremendous value for committed fleet customers because fees associated with basic service are paid by General Casualty.

• Safety awards materials and services include safe driver pins, safety certificates recognizing a variety of individual efforts, and engraved safety plaques for companies or work teams.

• Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB) Inspections through General Casualty’s reinsurance relationship allowing you to take advantage of HSB services.
