General Casualty’s experienced loss control staff members are strategically located throughout our operating territory. They are familiar with National Fire Protection Association codes, federal and state OSHA, MSHA and DOT regulations. We know Underwriter’s Laboratory, American National Standards Institute and American Society of Mechanical Engineers standards, as well as industry best practices for loss prevention. Our specialists can help you understand these codes and standards, and how, when and where they apply to your business operations.
Risk Improvement Surveys
The goal of a Risk Improvement Survey is to learn more about your business, identify ways to reduce losses and help you operate more efficiently.
If you are insured with General Casualty, one of our loss control representatives will schedule an appointment with you to conduct a walk-through of your business. This will identify potential hazards and note the safety measures you already have in place. At the end of the walk-through, the representative will discuss what the survey uncovered.
Explanations will be given for any needed safety improvements. Both parties need to reach a common understanding of the situation and decide what, if anything, will be done to make your operations safer.
Risk Improvement Survey recommendations are mailed to you with a copy to your insurance agent.
Continuing account service
We offer continuing services to our larger commercial customers through an integrated service team approach. This team includes you and your agent along with the General Casualty underwriter, and representatives from claims and loss control. We will work with you to design a specific plan that will focus on reducing losses and controlling costs.
We also have Technical Specialists to assist in the more specialized areas of loss control.
Our Environmental Health Specialist can help with noise level and air contaminant surveys and ergonomic assessments. The specialist can also help with OSHA programs for respiratory protection, confined space entry, lead, silica, bloodborne pathogens and other technical issues relating to chemical hazards, indoor air quality complaints and other environmental health issues.
Our Construction Specialist can provide specialized training for contractors. While we can customize training as needed, many contractors take advantage of our OSHA 10-hour course and full-day courses on excavation, fall protection and competent personnel training.
Our Property Specialist can provide you with pre- and post-construction sprinkler system reviews. General fire hazard evaluations—as well as evaluations of special hazards such as flammable liquid storage or paints booths—can also be conducted. Customized training and program assistance are also available.
Regional competitors can't provide specialists or these capabilities. National competitors often charge for these types of services or won't offer it at all. Look to General Casualty to meet your needs in these specialized areas.
