Employees at General Casualty Insurance Companies volunteered more than 11,500 hours with non-profit organizations and causes benefiting their local communities last year. Through its Special Employee Recognition for Volunteer Efforts (SERVE) program, the company is rewarding 72 employees by donating more than $10,000 in their honor to 61 different non-profit organizations.
Employees who work in General Casualty’s home, regional and branch offices or the U.S. corporate office in Sun Prairie can participate in the program. Those volunteering 50 or more hours in a year are awarded $1-per-volunteer-hour SERVE grants, up to $500.
Employees also choose where to donate their individual grants. Of the $10,800 that was donated, approximately $910 went to organizations supporting safety and prevention, $4,670 for education, $870 for arts and enrichment and $4,355 for basic human needs.
SERVE exemplifies General Casualty’s mission statement, “By providing an essential service and committing our time, talents and resources to our community, we make it a better place to live, work and play.”
During National Volunteer Week (April 15-21), General Casualty employees around the country will hold individual office celebrations, including breakfasts, pizza parties and more.
In addition to individual volunteer work, company offices and departments organize many volunteer efforts. General Casualty also supports select organizations that focus on health and human service, home and auto accident prevention and safety, education, and enrichment programs providing greater access to the arts.
Since the program began in 1998, employees have compiled more than 111,000 volunteer hours.
