12/17/2007: General Casualty introduces enhanced EPLI program

General Casualty has enhanced its Employment-Related Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) program to better protect commercial customers from the growing threat of employee lawsuits. The coverage was upgraded in response to agent and customer requests and will be available to businesses beginning Feb. 1, 2008.

“Today EPLI coverage is a necessity for both large and small businesses,” said Ken Anderson, vice president of commercial auto. “We revamped our program to make it more affordable for smaller businesses and easier for agents to write – without watering down the coverage. We offer virtually the same coverage that our larger customers receive through our monoline EPLI coverage.”

To better serve our smaller commercial customers, the company is offering the coverage to eligible contractors and small business (BOP) policies as an optional endorsement. It will also be available as a separate coverage for eligible businesses insured with General Casualty.

The enhanced coverage protects businesses against a wider variety of employee-related claims, including sexual harassment; wrongful termination and other wrongful employment practices; defamation, libel and slander; invasion of privacy; negligent evaluation; failure to employ or promote; retaliation; and acts of discrimination relating to an employee’s disability, race, handicap, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation or pregnancy.

The standard per-claim limit for the endorsement is $50,000 and an optional $100,000 limit is available. Limits range from $50,000 to $1 million for the monoline coverage.

In addition, businesses enrolled in General Casualty’s EPLI program can access AGOSNET, a Web-based risk management service. Free resources, such as model employee handbooks, samples of policies and forms, and best practices training bulletins are available. Other support services are offered for a fee.

This program is currently unavailable in New York and our Southern Region states.
