General Casualty Insurance Companies was recently presented the United Way of Dane County’s Innovation Award in recognition of its Key Club program.
General Casualty was honored for "setting a high standard and showing initiative in the way it conducts its Key Club program," said Dan Rashke, 2006 Key Club chair. He also praised the company for consistently using new methods to encourage employee contributions.
In 2005, Key Club donors annually gave between $500 and $9,999 to the United Way. Last year more than 30 percent of General Casualty employee donations made to United Way of Dane County were through Key Club. Employees donated $85,600 through Key Club. General Casualty’s overall donation was $236,236, the sixth largest corporate donation among Dane County businesses.
In 2005, 12 new members joined Key Club, for a total of 112 General Casualty employees, and gave an additional $12,827. This growth rate ranks third among more than 600 participating companies.
Rashke praised and credited several aspects of the company’s United Way campaign for helping increase contributions, including a dedicated campaign committee and campaign chair, emphasis on leadership giving, and recognition programs that help employees understand the impact of their generosity on the community.
"I’m thrilled about how generously employees give to United Way and support their communities. United Way is a great organization, and we’re very proud to support it," said Charles Valinotti, assistant vice president of personal auto, who accepted the award on behalf of the company at the United Way annual meeting and Key Club recognition banquet.
