This year employees at General Casualty Insurance Companies volunteered 14,160 hours with non-profit organizations and causes benefiting local communities. Through its Special Employee Recognition for Volunteer Efforts (SERVE) program, the company is rewarding 93 employees by donating more than $14,000 in their honor to 72 different non-profit organizations.
Employees who work in General Casualty’s home, regional and branch offices or the Winterthur U.S. Holdings, Inc., corporate office in Sun Prairie can participate in the program. Those volunteering 50 or more hours in a year are awarded $1-per-volunteer-hour SERVE grants, up to $500.
SERVE exemplifies General Casualty’s mission statement, “By providing an essential service and committing our time, talents and resources to our community, we make it a better place to live, work and play.”
“The volunteer time donated by our employees is a large reason why General Casualty is known as such a caring corporate citizen,” said Hollie Bowker, General Casualty community relations manager. Since the program began in 1998, employees have logged more than 100,000 volunteer hours.
In addition to individual volunteer work, company offices and departments organize many volunteer efforts. General Casualty also supports select organizations that focus on health and human service, home and auto accident prevention and safety, education and enrichment programs providing greater access to the arts.
