06/01/2006: General Casualty honors Sun Prairie fifth graders

More than 100 Sun Prairie fifth grade students were honored for turning in their homework on time all year long at the “Breakfast of Champions,” sponsored by the Sun Prairie Business and Education Partnership (BEP) and hosted at General Casualty’s Sun Prairie campus.

Adam and Nikki Burish, the brother and sister tandem who played for the University of Wisconsin men’s and women’s 2006 NCAA championship hockey teams, addressed students about the importance of working and studying hard.

Adam Burish encouraged students to continually improve and grow stronger. “Each day ask yourself, ‘What will I do today to make myself better?’” he said. He recounted how the men’s hockey team used this same theory to recover from a mid-season slump, helping carry them to a national title.

Nikki Burish told students about the daily schedule of a college athlete, reinforcing the need to manage time wisely and stay caught up on assignments.

In addition, Eric Brown, valedictorian of Sun Prairie High School’s graduating class, also congratulated the fifth graders adding that he attended the Breakfast of Champions when he was their age.

In addition to the free breakfast, students received t-shirts and a host of other prizes given away by the BEP. During the school year, the BEP also sponsors quarterly pizza and ice cream parties for students who’ve turned in their assignments on time to fuel motivation throughout the school year. Business partners attended the parties and visited with students, who also received certificates recognizing their achievements.

This is the ninth year General Casualty has hosted the annual breakfast.
