11/13/2006: Sun Prairie residents encouraged to donate to Thanksgiving food drive

On Friday, Nov. 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m., Sun Prairie residents on their way to work are encouraged to stop by General Casualty with non-perishable food items to donate to the Thanksgiving on the Mayflower food drive.

As part of the drive, 105.5 Triple M will broadcast live at the company’s headquarters at One General Drive (just north of Hwy. 19 on County C). Those who participate can grab a doughnut to go and register to win a Granite Peak Ski Resort weekend package and a $500 Wisconsin Dells gift card.

Organizers hope to fill up a Mayflower moving truck, provided by Union Transfer, with donations that will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank and other local food pantries. Most needed items include stews and pasta meals, canned fruit, tuna, peanut butter, jelly, pasta sauce, dry pasta and cereal. Financial donations are also encouraged.

I hope everyone fortunate enough to enjoy a nice Thanksgiving dinner this year will think about the 39,000 children in Wisconsin who often go to bed hungry,” said Hollie Bowker, General Casualty community relations manager. “Some of them live right in Sun Prairie.”
