11/30/2006: General Casualty expands commercial coverage

General Casualty is expanding its commercial liability coverage on policies effective Dec. 1 and after, making the company’s program significantly more comprehensive than standard industry forms.

The Wisconsin-based property and casualty insurer enhanced its Commercial General Liability Coverage Extension Endorsement, which is automatically included for no additional cost with all commercial package and monoline general liability policies. Expanded coverage includes:

  • liability loss to computerized or electronically stored data or software that results from physical injury to tangible property
  • defense costs under contractual liability, which are paid outside of the policy limits
  • extended three-year reporting period for eligible medical payments
  • a separate general aggregate limit of insurance applied to each location owned or rented to the policyholder or to each project away from the premises
  • lessors of leased equipment automatically included as additional insureds when required by contract
  • coverage for damage to a premises, which is owned or temporarily rented, to add the perils of explosion, smoke or leakage from a fire protection system

General Casualty updated its liability package as part of an ongoing effort to make its products more competitive and grow the company’s commercial book. This liability update follows significant property enhancements introduced last year that increased General Casualty’s per-location property limit to $75 million for certain risks and expanded its manufacturing appetite.

To support the company’s commercial customers, General Casualty offers loss control and premium audit services, local underwriting and 24-hour claim reporting.

This coverage change is available to policyholders in the company’s 12 Midwestern and five Northeastern states.
