07/26/2005: Sun Prairie celebrates National Night Out Aug. 4

Enjoy entertainment, refreshments and giveaways at National Night Out, America’s night out against crime, Aug. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carriage Hills Estates (1000 Musket Ridge Drive) and Wyndham Hills (675 Heatherstone Ridge) community parks in Sun Prairie. An annual, nationwide event, National Night Out encourages community involvement in crime and drug prevention activities, strengthens police-community relations and promotes neighborhood camaraderie.

“National Night Out is a great opportunity to meet our neighbors. This event helps build safer neighborhoods and communities by strengthening trust and nurturing healthy relationships between neighbors and local law enforcement,” said Sun Prairie Police Chief Frank Sleeter.

Sun Prairie residents can get to know local law enforcement and municipal personnel, attend demonstrations and view emergency vehicles from Sun Prairie and area police and fire departments, Sun Prairie EMS, UW Med-Flight, Army National Guard (UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter), UW Mounted Patrol, and Sun Prairie municipal department (bucket truck, mowers and other trucks).

Activities include face painting and a jumping castle at both parks. Wyndham Hills will feature Bob Braier Strolling Magic from 6 to 8 p.m. The Jolly Giant and Bananaland Productions’ Street Theater will perform at Carriage Hills Estates from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. In addition, volunteers from local insurer General Casualty will serve free hot dogs, soda and ice cream at both locations. The company is also sponsoring prizes drawings, including gift certificates to select Wisconsin Dells area businesses, Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce member businesses, and Wisconsin restaurants. Prize drawings will be held at 7:45 p.m. at each park, and entrants must be present to win.

“We’ve seen a steady increase in participation since the National Night Out program began,” said Hollie Bowker, General Casualty’s corporate relations manager. “We’re pleased that it’s become such a popular annual event in Sun Prairie and hope it continues to benefit our neighborhoods and communities.”

Sun Prairie’s National Night Out is sponsored by the Sun Prairie Police Department, Sun Prairie Parks and Recreation Department, City of Sun Prairie and General Casualty. More than 3,000 residents are expected to attend this year’s event. Since 1984, National Night Out has grown to involve more than 34 million people from 10,000-plus communities nationwide.
