On Friday, Nov. 18 from 7 to 9 a.m., as part of the Thanksgiving on the Mayflower food drive, 105.5 Triple M will broadcast live from the General Casualty headquarters, located at 1 General Drive in Sun Prairie (Exit Hwy. 19 at County C east, turn right into second driveway). A Mayflower moving truck will be parked at the site and those who make a non-perishable food item or cash donation that morning can register for prizes including a grand prize getaway weekend to Wisconsin Dells.
From Nov. 7 to 18, area residents are encouraged to help fill a Mayflower moving truck with food and cash donations for the Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. Food items and cash donations will also be collected at the Sentry grocery stores at 1052 West Main St. in Sun Prairie and 4602 Cottage Grove Rd. in Madison and Entercom Studios at 7601 Ganser Way in Madison.
Second Harvest Foodbank asks residents to donate non-perishable food items including: complete meals (such as stews or meals in a box), canned fruit, tuna, peanut butter, jelly, pasta sauce, dry pasta and cereal. Financial donations are also encouraged. Seven meals can be purchased with each dollar donated. Each year one person eats approximately 1,095 meals and more than 100,000 people in southwestern Wisconsin, including 39,000 children, go to bed hungry.
“I encourage all those who will be fortunate enough to enjoy a nice Thanksgiving dinner this year to think about those who don’t have enough to eat,” said Hollie Bowker, General Casualty community relations manager. “Your neighbor, your child’s schoolmate, the person you passed on the street on your way to work – one of them could go to bed hungry tonight.”
Area food drive sponsors include General Casualty, 105.5 Triple M, Union Transfer and Storage and Sentry. For more information about Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, visit www.secondharvestmadison.org/.
