Winterthur North America and General Casualty Insurance Companies are pleased to announce several recent promotions.
Winterthur promotions
Winterthur North America is an umbrella organization that provides administrative services to General Casualty (Sun Prairie, Wis.), Southern Guaranty (Montgomery, Ala.) and Unigard insurance companies (Bellevue, Wash.) in the finance, human resources, actuarial, legal, corporate communications, and information technology functional areas. Winterthur North America’s U.S. operations recorded gross premiums last year of $1.6 billion and employ 2,400 people in offices throughout the U.S.
Andy Doll was promoted to vice president. He oversees Winterthur North America’s actuarial department and the group's reinsurance function. Doll joined General Casualty in 1995 when he was hired as actuarial pricing manager. He previously served as specialty lines manager in the commercial lines department and assistant vice president in commercial lines. Doll has 14 years of actuarial experience and has earned the Fellow Casualty Actuary Society designation.
Mark Emmrich was promoted to vice president of human resources for Winterthur North America. He joined General Casualty’s human resources department in 1995 and has served in several management positions.
Tom French was promoted to assistant vice president of Winterthur North America’s corporate communications department. He joined General Casualty in 2000 and has 20 years of marketing and advertising experience.
Anne Moore was promoted to assistant vice president. She manages the establishment of actuarial reserves for Winterthur North America. Moore joined General Casualty in 2002 and has 12 years of actuarial experience.
Jeremy Scharnick was named assistant vice president in Winterthur North America’s actuarial department and manages actuarial pricing. He joined General Casualty in 1996 as an actuarial technician.
John Schanen was promoted to vice president in Winterthur North America’s financial department and serves as controller for the group. Schanen joined General Casualty 1987 as a financial analyst and has held several financial management positions.
General Casualty promotions
General Casualty Insurance Companies has insured autos, homes and businesses since 1925. The company markets its products through 1,200 agencies in 17 states, as well as under the Southern Guaranty brand in 350 agencies in 10 Southern states. General Casualty employs 1,900 people in seven regional offices and reported direct written premiums of $1.2 billion in 2003. General Casualty is a member of the Swiss-based Winterthur Insurance/Credit Suisse Group.
Frank Diaz became assistant vice president of General Casualty’s consolidated support services. Diaz joined the company in 2001 to help create the personal lines consolidated processing center. He has 28 years of experience in the insurance industry.
Bill Fitzpatrick was named General Casualty’s senior vice president of personal lines. Fitzpatrick joined the company as its first actuary in 1987 and has been working in the insurance industry since 1977.
Roger Kaland was named General Casualty’s vice president of marketing. Kaland joined General Casualty in 1978 as a commercial underwriter.
Rich Kalina was promoted to General Casualty’s senior vice president of commercial lines. Kalina started at the company’s Minneapolis Branch in March 1980 as a commercial account specialist and moved to the home office in 1991.
Kip Kobussen, who became General Casualty’s chief administrative officer last year, was promoted to vice president. He is responsible for the company’s business systems, consolidated support services, corporate relations and operational human resources functions. He started with the company in 1989.
Sheila McGraw was promoted to assistant vice president for General Casualty’s workers’ compensation claims. McGraw joined the company in 2002 and has 26 years of industry experience.
Jim Vandenberg was named assistant vice president in General Casualty’s commercial lines department. He manages commercial lines automation, planning and quality control review activities. He also oversees the loss control and premium audit departments and consults on reinsurance issues. Vandenberg joined General Casualty in 2002 and has worked in the industry since 1978.
