General Casualty employees from Milwaukee, Sun Prairie and Appleton are responding to the storms and tornadoes that struck Wisconsin on June 23. As of Friday morning, the majority of the company’s claims were homeowners losses due to wind damage. Early estimates put the companies’ claims around $2 million.
Most losses were reported in the Waupun area. General Casualty sent adjusters to Waupun late Wednesday night to assess damages and begin adjusting policyholders’ claims. Because much of the area has been without power, there may be more claims from Waupun yet to be reported.
In addition to homeowners losses, some business and auto claims related to the storms have been reported. Also, the company is responding to numerous claims in Madison, Milwaukee, Montello and Whitewater. The company expects to continue receiving storm-related claims throughout the next several days.
Reminders for policyholders
The company would like to remind policyholders to report their claims as soon as possible. General Casualty policyholders should contact their local independent agent or call the company’s ClaimLine24 reporting system at (888) 737-8256.
Policyholders should take common-sense measures to protect their property from further damage. However, please use caution, especially near power lines, downed trees, broken glass and on roofs. Once a policyholder calls to report a claim, their agent or insurance carrier may provide clean-up advice or send professionals to help.
To speed up the claims process, it is helpful to retain and document your damaged property. The company also recommends keeping a record of all loss-related expenses.
