07/29/2004: General Casualty celebrates National Night Out with its communities

Thousands of residents around the country will celebrate National Night Out, America’s night out against crime, during the week of Aug. 2. General Casualty Insurance Companies is an active sponsor of National Night Out celebrations in Des Moines, Iowa; Brookfield, Wis.; and Sun Prairie, Wis. The events encourage involvement in crime and drug prevention activities, strengthen police-community relations and promote neighborhood camaraderie.

“Helping citizens stay safe and eliminating crime are very important to General Casualty,” said Hollie Bowker, General Casualty’s corporate relations manager. “National Night Out plays a direct role in helping us achieve these goals.”

All events will feature entertainment, refreshments and giveaways, vehicle and equipment displays and demonstrations by local law enforcement agencies and fire departments, safety demonstrations and more. The company will give away gift certificates and other prizes at the events.

Volunteers from General Casualty will also participate in the festivities. They’ll serve free hot dogs, soda and ice cream at the Sun Prairie event, host a traffic safety booth in Brookfield, and give away bicycle safety flashers and serve refreshments in Des Moines.

“Getting to know your neighbors plays a large role in helping to prevent crime,” said Sun Prairie Police Chief Frank Sleeter. “People who know their neighbors are more likely to inquire about potential crimes and contact police when they see suspicious activity. This directly affects our community and our citizens’ quality of life.”

Since 1984, National Night Out has grown to involve more than 30 million people from 10,000-plus communities nationwide.
