As part of ongoing organizational changes (that began last year), Southern Guaranty will begin using the name “General Casualty Insurance Companies” effective Jan. 3, 2005.
In November 2003, General Casualty assumed responsibility for Southern Guaranty’s insurance operations as part of efforts by its parent company, Swiss-based Winterthur Insurance, to boost operational efficiencies within its U.S. companies.
Southern Guaranty – now to be known as General Casualty’s Southern Region – will remain headquartered in Montgomery, Ala., with offices in Greensboro, N.C., and Atlanta. No staff cuts are expected to occur as part of the name change.
General Casualty writes personal and commercial insurance in 26 Midwestern, Northeastern and Southeastern states through approximately 1,600 independent agencies. The company expects agents, policyholders and employees to be affected minimally, if at all, by this name change.
