The Winterthur Group announced today John R. Pollock's appointment as head of Winterthur North America. This position was formerly held by Herman Aaftink, who recently retired.
Pollock, president and CEO of General Casualty Insurance Companies, will oversee the North American insurance operations of Winterthur, which include General Casualty, The Citadel, Republic, Southern Guaranty and Unigard. No change to Pollock's role at General Casualty has been announced at this time.
"It is an honor to accept this new level of responsibility and to follow Herman Aaftink's exceptional leadership," Pollock says.
Pollock is a graduate of St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He began working in the insurance industry in 1978. In 1981, he became General Casualty's vice president, treasurer and controller. He was promoted to president and CEO in July 1988.
He serves on the governing boards of Future Madison Corporation, Meriter Health Services, Inc., and the National Association of Independent Insurers. He is also involved in numerous community and charitable organizations including United Way.
