Pete McPartland, executive vice president of the General Casualty Insurance Companies, was named president and chief operating officer (COO) of the company in an announcement made to employees earlier today.
In his new position, McPartland will direct all aspects of General Casualty’s operations and oversee the company’s day-to-day activities.
He succeeds John Pollock, who was promoted earlier this year to the head of Winterthur North America, a division of the Winterthur Insurance/Credit Suisse Group, General Casualty’s parent company. Pollock, who had been president of General Casualty for 15 years, will remain chief executive officer of General Casualty.
"Pete McPartland has played a key role in defining the vision that has helped make General Casualty a leading carrier of home, auto and business insurance," Pollock said. "He is well known to our agents and staff, and I have total confidence in him."
McPartland, who joined General Casualty in 1994 as senior vice president of commercial lines, has been executive vice president of insurance operations since 2000. "I have had the opportunity to work closely with John and the General Casualty management team over the last several years and am very pleased with our strategy and direction," McPartland said. "We have an extremely talented and dedicated group of employees. I look forward to continuing to support their efforts in my new role."
Before coming to General Casualty, McPartland gained extensive industry experience in underwriting, marketing and field management, including serving as the senior vice president of commercial underwriting at Fireman’s Fund, a large national insurer. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida.
McPartland was active in the 2002 United Way campaign at General Casualty and has been involved as a board member of the Madison Repertory Theatre. He is also a member of the Workers’ Compensation Research Institute and the NCCI National Workers’ Compensation Reinsurance Pool Board of Governors.
McPartland resides in Middleton with his wife, Laura, and has one son.
