As part of National Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 5-11), General Casualty made monetary donations to fire safety programs and a fire department's community fundraising drive.
On Oct. 7 General Casualty presented the Eden Prairie (Minnesota) Fire Department with $10,000 to purchase Automated External Defibrillators for local schools and public buildings. The community is working to raise money for placing AEDs in public places to help improve survival rates of cardiac arrest victims.
"General Casualty's contribution will help the program meet nearly one-third of its goal, and more importantly, provides life-saving devices in community gathering areas," said Hollie Bowker, General Casualty's corporate relations manager.
General Casualty is also sponsoring a statewide fire safety and education campaign with the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety (WAFS), the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and other community organizations.
General Casualty's contribution will support WAFS's fire prevention programs, giving children with burn injuries an opportunity to attend a weeklong camp. The contribution also helps provide educational materials to every fourth and fifth grade student in Wisconsin, totaling more than 250,000 children.
The donation also helped fund a special Milwaukee Journal Sentinel feature section, which includes tips from General Casualty to make sure homeowners are properly insured in case of a fire or other property loss.
