12/01/2003: General Casualty does more than wish employees a “healthy holiday”

In order to help promote healthy lifestyles, especially during the holiday season, General Casualty Insurance Companies is holding a Health Expo today for its 750 Sun Prairie employees. The event takes place at the company’s corporate headquarters and features wellness-related booths, healthy snacks, prize drawings, exercise class sign-ups and tours of the company’s onsite workout facility.

Dean/St. Marys Health Works is providing five booths on important topics for employees, including men’s/women’s health issues, stress reduction, nutritional content in food, smoking cessation, and an activity/exercise guide.

"By working with companies like General Casualty we can reach their employees directly and give them healthcare information so they can make better choices," said Lucy Gilles-Khouri director of Dean/St. Marys Health Works. "This service not only improves the wellness of individuals but creates a stronger more productive work force. The Health Works Corporate Wellness program is becoming more and more popular as employers realize its value."

Additional activities will continue throughout the week at General Casualty.

  • The cafeteria will offer healthy lunch selections all week long.
  • During the lunch hour on Dec. 3 a speaker from Dean/St. Marys will answer questions about healthy eating.
  • During the lunch hour on Dec. 4 the Sun Prairie Police Department’s community officer will talk about personal and home safety.
  • On Dec. 4 employees will have the opportunity to receive child safety seat inspections from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

“We want to help employees reach their personal health and wellness goals and show our corporate support for healthful activities,” said Anne Smith, General Casualty senior vice president. “And research shows that healthier employees are more productive, take less sick days and are generally happier, which benefits us all.”
