09/27/2002: General Casualty celebrates completion of $27 million expansion project

On Sept. 26 General Casualty celebrated the completion of its $27.9 million expansion project with special "rollback lunch pricing" in its employee cafeteria.

The event offered a full lunch menu at 1982 prices to co-commemorate the completion of the project and the company's original move to Sun Prairie from its downtown Madison office building 20 years ago. More than 355 employees took advantage of the reduced prices.

The company has expanded twice since moving into its first building on the 147-acre campus on the corner of Highway 19 and County C on the outskirts of Sun Prairie.

The latest expansion project, which began in November 1999, added 135,000 square feet of space and room for an additional 250+ employees. In the past two years, the company has hired 180 additional employees in its personal lines policy processing, data services, and other functional areas. The project added a third building to house the company's processing, distribution and data centers and included renovation of the two existing buildings. Renovations included the development of fully equipped, multi-media training facilities; a full backup generator system; modernized heating and cooling systems, and enhanced security monitoring and restricted access to the company's computer systems.
